Learn to be a baseball umpire (or upgrade your skills). New umpires have earned anywhere from $300 to $2,000 (or more) over the spring, summer and fall (note: income earned is dependent on game availability). RRUA supplies umpires at ages levels for high school, middle school, traveling and in-house games. Classes cover a variety of baseball rules, mechanics, and communication. Classes consist of a total, five, two hour sessions and a single outdoor training. We use the NFHS 2021 Rule and Case Book (included with class fee).
Cost of the class is $80. This fee includes the rule books and is non-refundable. ($35 for those wishing to take the class a second time. Umpire must bring old rule books). Class dates are March 29, April 5, 10, 19 & 26, 6:30-8:30pm (Please note: Saturday, April 10 will be 9:30-11:30am). Outdoor training on Saturday, May 1 (Time TBD). (FYI: Due to COVID restrictions, we are still trying to reserve a facility for the class in the Andover/Anoka/Ramsey/Champlin/Coon Rapids/St. Francis area. We may need to use ZOOM initially or for the entire class.) The minimum age is 13. For umpire students aga 13-16, we prefer a parent attend approximately 1 hour of the first class to go over expectations and a brief overview of the class. Registration deadline is Wednesday, March 24. Fee is $90 if registering after the deadline.
Please note: The class fee does not include the umpire the necessary gear. I’ll review equipment options at the first class.
